Treatment Approach

Welcome to our therapeutic journey together. In my practice, I believe in a compassionate and collaborative approach to healing and growth. My foundation rests on building a trusting and empathetic relationship, where you feel seen and heard without judgment. Drawing from different models of treatment such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness practices, ecotherapy, personal development, and EMDR therapy, we will work together to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

My goal is to help you recover from trauma, uncover patterns, challenge limiting beliefs, and develop practical skills to navigate life’s challenges. I honour your unique journey, tailoring my interventions to suit your individual needs and aspirations.

Together, we’ll embark on a path of self-discovery, resilience, and empowerment. You’re not alone in this journey; I’m here to support and guide you every step of the way.

What is Eco-Therapy?

Ecotherapy is rooted in the understanding that humans have connection with the natural world. This approach recognizes the equal relationship between nature and human psychology, emphasizing the therapeutic benefits of spending time outdoors and engaging in nature. Whether it’s a leisurely walk in the woods, or simply sitting by a babbling brook, ecotherapy encourages individuals share and trust in natural environments to promote mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Research has shown that ecotherapy interventions can lead to significant improvements in mood, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. By integrating nature-based activities, eco-therapists empower individuals to tap into their own resilience and discover new paths to healing.

Benefits of Ecotherapy

  1. Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Studies have shown that spending time in nature can lower cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress, and calm symptoms of anxiety. Ecotherapy provides individuals with a calming and serene environment where they can decompress and find inner peace.
  2. Improved Mood and Emotional Resilience: Nature has a big effect on our mood and emotional state. Engaging in outdoor activities stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals, leading to improved mood and a greater sense of happiness. Ecotherapy helps individuals build emotional resilience and cope more effectively with life’s challenges.
  3. Enhanced Self-Awareness and Mindfulness: Nature offers a unique opportunity for self-reflection and introspection. By immersing oneself in natural surroundings, individuals can improve mindfulness and deepen their connection with their inner selves. Ecotherapy promotes self-awareness, helping individuals understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  4. Connection with the Natural World: In today’s society, many people feel disconnected from nature. Ecotherapy provides a space for individuals to rekindle their relationship with the natural world and develop a sense of appreciation for the environment. This connection with nature creates feelings of connection and belonging.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy. It is an entire therapy model that has been proven to be highly effective for those who have experienced trauma.

EMDR therapy is founded on the basis that our emotional well-being is interwoven with our physical (somatic) state. Therefore, EMDR employs a body-based technique called bilateral simulation during which a therapist will guide a client through eye movements, tones, or taps in order to move a memory that has been incorrectly stored to a more functional part of the brain.

During trauma our brain processes and stores memories incorrectly. This incorrect storage can lead to past memories feeling very present. Related or unrelated stimuli in the present can lead to clients reacting as they did at the time of trauma. The brain feels if the past disturbing event is happening currently.

EMDR therapy corrects this mis-storage so that the painful memories associated with the trauma lose their charge. The client can react to stimuli in the present without the past interfering.

I am not currently taking clients for EMDR services. Please check back soon, or email me for additional information.

What I value most:

Authenticity

Put simply, when we meet in therapy you will get to know me as a real and authentic person. While still demonstrating my clinical skills and competencies, I also set aside any professional façade.

Connection

We are biologically wired for connection. Human connection is a deep bond that’s formed between people when they feel seen and valued. During an authentic human connection, we often exchange positive energy with one another and build trust. One of my favourite parts of being a therapist is being able to connect and build trust with clients and help them build meaningful connections with others.

Non-judgmental

It might sound like a cliche, but after spending a good amount of time in mental health and addictions, I’ve come across a lot of stories. Honestly, I’m not here to judge you.  I’m open-minded, and I respect that everyone has their own unique experiences. Your true self is something I value and appreciate.

Compassion

Compassion is at the heart of my therapy. Compassion is the place where we connect the most, it’s where we develop trust and rapport. It’s how I help you learn to have self-compassion even in the most difficult of circumstances.
